I remembered an incident from psychological practice... I then worked in the field of additional education and actively conducted trainings for teenagers. And so I put together the first training in my life dedicated to career guidance. The training consisted of 8 meetings of 2 hours each. And the goal was to choose a profession and prepare for employment prospects (at the last meetings, the guys and I filled out resumes, went through play interviews, i.e. the schoolchildren left the training as savvy as possible and ready for any surprises). And at one of the classes, when we discussed the factors for choosing a future profession (including interest in the Work of Life), one participant said such an interesting thing: “And, in my opinion, a person is such an infection that he can adapt to everything!” The fact that a person is an infection (worse than any there are cockroaches there), I naturally agreed. And then we had a dialogue about what is better: to adapt or to choose for ourselves. Moreover, the choice is not limited to vital circumstances. There are always possibilities for it (choice). The remark made resulted in a short but meaningful discussion, in which both the participants and your humble servant spoke on the topic. Now, looking back, I realize that the girl very clearly expressed the opinion floating in society. One of the most popular obstacles to self-realization: we don’t want to choose! The very situation of choice causes anxiety and a lot of uncertainty. This means that it is much easier to agree to any extremely unfavorable conditions in order to adapt later than to endure the agony of choice. For many of us, it is much more convenient for someone else to make the decisive choice instead of us. And then we will adapt, get used to it, and endure it. After all, choice is not only responsibility, it is the need to turn on your head, face your own emotions, get out of your familiar place and look at a wider world than is usual... And another question: what brings happiness? Adaptation or free choice? Movement by inertia, or active pursuit of your own happiness? This question is not so easy to find an answer... But it is definitely worth speculating. How do you go through life? Do you choose or adapt? Share in the comments! The inability to choose often is a consequence of a lack of confidence.
